You’re Trapped, and You Know It. Here is What to do Next.

You’re trapped, and you know it. Here’s the thing.

You’re feeling anxious and under pressure and I want to talk to you about it because there are things that you can do to relieve those feelings. Feeling trapped leads to anxiousness and maybe you are in your Calling right now but questioning whether the mission God has put you on is leaving you in a place where you are wondering if He will show up.  Even though you know that God will fix things, maybe you still feel like Elijah, ready to run away from the threats around you.

Good news! It doesn’t have to stay that way, here’s the plan.

First, I want you to get on your knees and spend time with God, simply telling him, “You are God, and I am not.” Say that over and over again, “You are God, and I am not.” The more you repeat that the more you will convince yourself because using your tongue sets your soul and spirit’s heading. So, as I say it, I remember and come back to the realization that I have nothing to lose. Believing that you have everything to gain is what you should focus on. But, it’s not something that will come naturally without reminding yourself again, “You are God and I am not.”

Now, in the midst of the fight you’re in and the crushing you’re experiencing, you need to say to yourself, “This is my great opportunity. It’s the place where I am going to grow.” That crushing you’re in is where your strength will increase by pushing through and holding strong. Your ability to be steadfast proves the belief that God will do something good through your struggle.

Isaiah 41:31, tells us that if you wait on God, you will renew your strength and regain your power. If you have reached the point where you are saying, “Ok, I need a break,” you probably feel like a boxer who’s been put into a corner between rounds. You’re getting doused with water, somebody’s putting a cold towel on your head and your prepping to go back out there and fight! Maybe you’re breathing in the smelling salts and thinking, “All right, I’m ready to go out there again.”

But no, I want you to stop. I want you to stop and stay in the corner and wait on God. He’s going to renew your strength. Isaiah 41 says that we will gain wings like eagles. Now, eagles’ wings are super strong; their bodies are muscular. Can you imagine what it must feel like to gain strength while you wait so you can run and not grow weary? You’ll continue without fainting because of the supernatural power in you!

Get ready for this. Believe now that God will give you supernatural strength because you are waiting upon Him. If you have decided to believe that the crushing you are experiencing is growing your strength and trust that “You are God and I am not.” then here is the next thing, and this is important. I want you to disregard any thoughts of how you expect things to turn out. Give them up! Give up the outcome you desire and decide that even if it doesn’t go your way, you’ll stay in the fight. We all have our druthers as to how something should turn out, I’ve got them too, but give it to God. I have said, “God, this is how I want this to end. Yet, I am trusting You and believing You will handle this.”

Now, having released my way to Him, I have everything to gain. It is in His hands because He is God; I am not; I am a steward of His gifts. I am taking what He’s given me, and I’m about to return to this fight again. Even if others may think I failed or things didn’t go as planned, I remind myself,  “God, You’ve got this under control, and You are God, and I am not.”

So, I’m going to be joyful about this, just as James wrote about in the first chapter of his book. I’m going to consider this opportunity of adversity for joy. I will believe in what You’re going to do no matter what because the results are in Your hands. “God, the preferences are in your hands, and I will be faithful. I’m going to go out there; I’m going to give it my all. I will stay the course that You have put before me while I wait on You, Lord.”

I’m Jeff Gerhardt with The Master’s Program. What I’m encouraging you to do today is to find the strength that you need to care for your soul in order to take on your mission. God has called us to bear fruit, and that’s what we’re striving for here at TMP. Fruit can only happen with strategic behavior. One of our strategies is what Jesus talked about in the Third Soil. Don’t be anxious. Don’t let anxiety choke out your fruitful opportunity.

Get your strength back today, and go back into the next round of this fight. Remember, you can’t do it alone. Believe that God will do amazing things and give you power beyond your capability. This is the tension that we’re nurturing between His work and ours. It’s not all Him, and it’s not all me, yet I keep moving on mission. Once you recognize this, it’s in this moment that you comprehend and believe in the power of His supernatural strength given to you.

All right. Go get ‘em. Keep on mission.

In your corner,
Jeff

  1. Super good Jeff! Great medicine for me to have received today. Thank you for all you do! Proud to stand side by side with you in this thing we call “life”.

  2. Thanks, Jeff — this was particularly meaningful and encouraging to me in this present season. Your exhortation to relinquish my preference for the outcome was a difficult yet particularly helpful input. Much appreciated.
