Who’s In Your Pipeline?

Who’s In Your Pipeline?

Hi, I’m Jeff Gerhardt, CEO of Priority Living and Coach of The Master’s Program. I have a question for you. Who’s in your pipeline of people you’re bringing to Christ?

In the Master’s Program Sessions 7, 10, and 11, we get fresh takes on the Gospel as well as plans for reaching those on our list of committed prayers. These committed prayers are for the people in our lives who either don’t know Jesus or need to go deeper with Him.

As a Freshman, I tried out for a High School Baseball team at a 5A school in Central Florida. The team’s coach was Birto Benjamin. He had coached many great players for decades, including a few who had made it to the major leagues. The only problem was that the team had missed the playoffs the previous years despite being loaded with talent.

The problem? In Coach Benjamin’s assessment, there was too much strategy and not enough getting the basic job done: scoring runs and getting the other team out. In every game, there’s the option to use strategy to get ahead, but if all you think about is strategy and aren’t checking the scoreboard, you’re in danger of losing the game.

Recent decades have seen leaders in our faith turn to other strategies that are not at the heart of the game that Jesus designed, love God, love people, make disciples.

My question is, “Who is in your pipeline?”

Every day, any of you who are in sales and marketing (and to be clear… any of you who are in business are in sales and marketing!) Any of you who are trying to close more clients, have a pipeline. That pipeline is filled with potential new clients and repeat clients. As you guide them through the pipeline of stages, you bring them closer to closing “the deal”.

Here’s my pipeline of those I hope will come to know Jesus:
A 31-year-old former NFL player
A retired former colleague
A wealthy friend living in the California Central Coast
A Genius Israeli Engineer
A Marketer in London
A Marketer in New Jersey

And there are many, many more that I’m pursuing to go deeper with the Good News of Christ.

While I didn’t name my six targets, they are being prayed for, and I’m talking with them, hoping Christ will draw them in while I continue to represent them.

If you’re a Kingdom Leader – you need a pipeline. Start today and make two lists.

The first list is those who have never put their faith in Jesus. What prayers are you making for them? What intersections will you have with them to further the conversation? Bonus challenge: what’s a compelling question your target needs to consider in their journey to God?

The second list is those who know Christ and follow your lead here. I see this as the three and the twelve rule. When leading 12 people in spiritual conversations about how to follow Christ more deeply, generally 3 out of the 12 will stand out as leaders and take what you say very seriously (i.e., the “Peter, James, and John” of Jesus’s group). They are your replicating leaders. Your groups of twelve – lead as many of those as you can – and then within that group of twelve find the three that get extra attention from you to go further. They are the stallions in the mix that need to be fed.

Joey Goss and I started a TMP group in DFW a few years back, and the twelve and three rule held. This cohort of TMP members finished together and they were one of the best I have ever seen. It is filled with guys who, I believe, aim to serve Christ for the rest of their lives actively. Within that group, three of them stood out to take on more. Aaron Mummert, Stanton Williams, and Jonathan Witt are now directly replicating our work together.

This is just one example of many groups with whom I get to lead. A pipeline that’s going further because of my passion for business leaders becoming Kingdom Leaders. Your passions are yours, and the strategy to advance the Gospel is on you with God’s providence.  So, get your list out, and don’t let the strategy be the most important thing. Make the eternal scoreboard of souls your primary measure.

In your corner,
Jeff

  1. “Who is in Your Pipeline” is a great reminder of what our primary calling is as followers of Jesus – introducing people to Jesus and making disciples. It is what matters most for here and eternity. Working my lists. Steve

  2. What a great challenge to make those two lists. Will be working on mine and praying for the Holy Spirit to reveal what question I should ask of those who have yet to follow Jesus. That’s a Kingdom assignment.
