Hey, friends, welcome back to the Insider Journal, where we wrestle with maximizing our eternal outcomes as Christian leaders.
We’re in Part 3 of our six-part series on money, diving into turning dormant assets into Kingdom tools. In Part 1, we debunked the myth that money is evil—it’s greed we watch out for. Part 2 cut the “communist vibe,” showing we’re all royal priests in God’s economy. Today, we are after “The Underused Wealth You Can Deploy.” Our series rolls on. Let’s jump in.
Years ago, my wife Heather and I did our first DreamMaster in Corona del Mar, overlooking the Pacific. God planted a vision: “What if our home became a sanctuary for people to grow closer to Him?” That dream guided us through a big move to North Texas. Then, in April 2020, as the world shut down, we walked our neighborhood, and the vision roared back. What if we sold our home to build that dream? We weren’t just selling a house—we were leveraging everything: finances, faith, relationships.
Here’s the problem: Too often, we let assets (or even dreams) sit dormant, especially in lives of plenty. Americans waste so much—second homes empty 11 months a year, cars gathering dust, even forgotten bank accounts. Did you know US States hold over $70 billion in unclaimed property, like dormant accounts or uncashed checks, because we’re too busy or blessed to notice? In God’s economy, hoarding for safety—like that unused vacation club or savings account—isn’t stewardship, it’s neglect. We have so much that we’ve forgotten about, and we fail to use it for Kingdom service, missing chances to multiply what God’s given us.
Take our story. We sold our home in 2020, praying, “God, don’t let us get too comfortable in the rental home.” He led us to a run-down rental owned by Chinese missionaries, funding their work abroad. When they returned, we had 60 days to move in the red-hot 2021 market. God’s timing was perfect. He brought us to DM Ranch—short for DreamMaster—a property where our vision lives. We’ve poured every dollar, connection, and ounce of faith into it, not to hoard but to create a hub where leaders and families meet God. I’m not saying we’re broke—but we’d rather invest in eternal impact than bloat our balance sheet.
Paul nails it:
“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give… not reluctantly… for God loves a cheerful giver.” This isn’t just about money—it’s your life. Are you sowing your time, talents, treasures? Or saving for a rainy day? God’s economy thrives on investment, not preservation. DM Ranch proves it: dormant assets, like a home or forgotten funds, can become Kingdom catalysts. — 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
So, what’s the action? First, dream with God. In DreamMaster, we vision-cast with Him. Ask: What could that unused cabin or bank account become for His Kingdom? Second, leverage everything. Don’t hold back—use your networks, skills, even that $2,000 in an old account you forgot. Third, sow cheerfully; give with joy, whether hosting a Bible study in your guest room or funding a mission. Finally, measure eternal ROI—lives changed, faith deepened… not dollars saved.
Here’s the ending: Your rusty assets—homes, cars, forgotten funds—aren’t yours to hoard. As priests in God’s economy, you’re called to steward them for impact. DM Ranch isn’t just land; it’s a mindset of sowing generously to see God’s Kingdom grow.
This week, list one unused asset—maybe a timeshare, car, or old account. Check MissingMoney.com for unclaimed funds. Ask God how to sow it for His Kingdom, and share your plan with a trusted friend.
Here’s the knockout: Don’t let your blessings rust. Revive those dormant assets, sow them boldly, and watch God’s economy multiply your impact—for eternity.
In your corner,
Jeff
