Will You Live Your Calling or Stay in the Swamp?

Will You Live Your Calling or Stay in the Swamp?

There’s a problem we need to address.

It’s the issue of the “swamp” or the “deep state” – the things of this world that are crowding out our ability to fully worship and serve God.

Last week, I had an amazing opportunity to visit Washington D.C. with my wife Heather and our sons. As we toured the memorials at night, looking at those great leaders immortalized in stone, their inspiring words etched there, I was reminded of people who decided they could no longer continue to live the way they had been living. They had to move forward and make a change, even if it cost them their lives.

Have you reached that point yet? When I speak of the swamp and deep state, I’m not referring to politics in Washington D.C. I’m talking about our fleshly nature, the enemy, and the world that tries to tell us to seek the gods of comfort, safety and security. But that is not our God. We do not serve a God who calls us to ease and pleasure, although He does provide to strengthen us. The point of our life is our mission to love God, love people, and make disciples.

Do you know your calling? Are you a Kingdom leader now? Many of you already are living out that leadership role. But the test of leadership is – are others following you? Do you have a God-sized vision and dream that will only be accomplished if God Himself shows up? And is that dream aligned with the plan to love God more, love people more, and make more disciples?

Making disciples means going out, baptizing, teaching people to follow Christ’s commands as we move towards that goal. That’s how we know we are Kingdom leaders, capable of telling others, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”

Perhaps you have already become a Kingdom leader through The Master’s Program, and all aspects of your life feel blessed. Your family and marriage are sound, your career and resources are good and your giving is incredible. That’s all great, but it’s not the end goal.

One of my favorite stories is from 2 Kings 6-7, about the lepers outside Samaria who discovered God’s abundant provision of food. But they didn’t stay and hoard it – they ran back to tell the city the good news of God’s provision. This is our call and opportunity – to bring the good news of salvation to those who don’t know Him, and the gospel of the Kingdom to those who do.

Now is our time on the stage of history. It’s not just the pastors’ job or the missionaries’. It’s our job in this generation. Will we be the ones to leave it all on the field, taking the gospel to every nation, caring for the widows, orphans, the poor? Caring for their physical needs, but not just comforting them on their way to hell – giving them the eternal answer that Jesus loves them and offers everlasting life?

Will we be that generation? If you’re uncertain of your calling, I want to help you discover it. If you want to clarify how to move forward, let me be part of the answer. The decision is this: Will you lead in the Kingdom work God has called you to? Have you identified where God is at work and joined Him there with your best abilities and passions fully engaged in who He made you to be?

In The Master’s Program, we are committed to helping you discover that calling. This is our time on the stage today. What will you make of it? Let’s go forward together.

In your corner,
Jeff

  1. This is a good word Jeff! Preach! ”If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭39‬ ‭NLT‬‬
