Hi. I am Jeff Gerhardt. I am here in Al Ain (EAU). I am just a kilometer from Oman. I am here in a place where there are multiple sheik palaces behind me.
Here in this city there is a ton of greenery. You have to realize how incredible the infrastructure has to be to have all of this… a park with grass and trees. It’s a sign of infrastructure. What does it take to get all of that water here in the middle, truly, the middle of the desert?
I want to tell you why I am here…
First of all we are starting The Master’s Program here in Al Ain. On top of that I want to give you three tools you have not heard in The Master’s Program before.
I like to tell clients on how they can protect their commitments and protect their focus.
All three words are all “ne”s.
1. Negotiate. You need to negotiate win-wins. You need to keep your focus. You need to stay the path of your Calling. You are always going to have to be in the negotiation stance with which you need to be able to make sure your commitments still honor the Calling that you’ve got. Negotiating win-wins is your number one tool.
2. Neglect. You need to have the ability to neglect. Now that term often frightens leaders and especially leaders with families, that think, “oh my gosh, in order to protect my Calling I need to neglect something?”
Well we are talking about neglecting the voices that are calling to you that do not have any authority, and would have you stay focused on their agenda not your agenda. To neglect benignly. To open up that calendar. To open up that email box and not allow anyone else’s choices drive your day. But in fact, neglect items in your email box and allow them to stay there awhile, and see if they don’t go away. Neglect benignly the things that are not a part of your agenda in your initiatives across the Kingdom, family, and your career.
3. Negate. Finally you need to be able to negate agreements that are harmful or are keeping you from moving forward. Sometimes pruning of arrangements, negating of contracts, in an honorable way, of course, is an important tool that we have to consider. So often we think in our world, our stance, simply that we need to always be nice, be kind, be so easy to work with, but at times we have to protect the things we are Called to.
So these three tools are really important. I use them all the time.
Negotiate. Neglect. Negate.
In those three tools you are going to find the protection of your power is super important and it is super possible, because you stayed focused on what God has called you to – across the Kingdom, across your career, and across your family.
We are in your corner!
