Long before this quote was attributed to Jack Welch, Solomon told us in Ecclesiastes that for everything there is a season.
Just because we keep going doesn’t mean we keep growing! The question is, “Are you resisting the renewal cycle?” The Dogday Cicadas are singing but they will be winding down soon here in North Carolina. As we approach the fall and then the winter, I will be experiencing all the seasons here for the first time in Iredell County.
The winter is not as long here in North Carolina as it is in my native Canada, nevertheless, I still tend to resist it; not just a change in the weather but the winter of life. What about you? Do you resist certain life seasons?
In TMP we learn about the Renewal Cycle in Session Three. There are certain times of the year and seasons that we wholeheartedly embrace. For most of us this is the spring and summer. The Hudson Institute refers to these two seasons as the Get Ready stage and the Go For It stage.
This is when we experience the most energy and passion in our relationships or value creation. Inevitably, all good things must come to an end as we transition to a season of change to walk in even greater things! This is called the winter or cocoon. It follows the fall or doldrums and can be an isolated place. For a sanguine like me, it feels lonely, and I resist these times. The truth is the season can lead to a greater emergence of life and living with a deeper understanding of God and His faithfulness.
Instead of attempting to circumvent the cocoon, begin a discerning process to see if God is calling you into a place of silence and solitude. Be willing to go through the process and yield to the deep work of the Holy Spirit.
You will be amazed once you come out at how high you can soar with Him. By the way, cicadas can make a bunch of noise, but butterflies can fly much higher than a cicada could ever dream.
