Are you Leading from the Heart?

Are you Leading from the Heart?

I just came back from a mountain top experience. Literally. I just returned from a retreat in the beautiful mountain town of Idyllwild, CA.  Sometimes we need to break away from running our lives to examine the life we are living. The most critical aspect of leadership is where we lead from. Proverbs 4:23 in the NIV Bible Version says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The health of our leadership rises and falls on the condition of our heart. There is no escaping the wounds of the heart as we journey through life, regardless of our upbringing. Whether real or perceived, whether personal trauma or moral injury; areas of brokenness will eventually surface. We are then left to disentangle unresolved issues and the consequences of its impact on our lives, our families, and our leadership.

In Session 9 of The Master’s Program, we walk through an audit of the heart. Where have we received messages that have become embedded lies in the fabric of our belief system? What does God’s word say about it? Who do we need to forgive? Ourselves? Others?  It is here we may recognize that mental or emotional strongholds have stopped us short from truly thriving and being able to lead from our heart with a God-honoring passion. For men, the big questions may be, “Do I have what it takes? Will I fail?” For women, regardless of achievement, we can be haunted by, “Am I enough? Or am I too much?” We can easily function from the false self if God’s word does not answer these questions.

Only when we find our identity in Christ do we realize we are no longer spiritual orphans. We begin walking in our Kingdom position as sons and daughters of the King. HE is enough. HE is our portion. We can be healed from the wound and delivered from the lies of the enemy or even self-deception.  As authentic Kingdom leaders we can experience increased fitness and freedom to thrive in our Kingdom Assignment and truly lead from the passion that aligns with God’s Passion for His creation.
