Do you know what your guests are really hungering for this Thanksgiving? It’s probably more than just the turkey with all the fixings and pumpkin pie that we typically consume.
As a side dish to the usual fare, what if we offered our guests a genuine experience with the Fruit of the Spirit?
Lisa Allen, my dear sister from TMP, posted this earlier today and I believe it is the greatest reminder of what it might look like to serve Galatians 5:22 to others, which is the Fruit of the Spirit:
Love – Someone is lonely at your table craving your love.
Joy – Someone needs to catch your contagious joy because theirs is waning.
Peace – Someone is dealing with crazy anxiety and needs to bump into your peace.
Patience – Someone will drive you crazy and will require extra patience.
Goodness – Someone needs to believe God, people and this world is good.
Kindness – Someone just needs kindness as they live in a harsh culture daily.
Faithfulness – Someone needs to be reminded you are by their side no matter what.
Gentleness – Someone needs a light touch that will balance their hard situation.
Self-Control – Someone needs you not to take the bait and be drawn into the political discussion. That someone could be you.
In Session 2 of The Master’s Program we are challenged to better understand and increase our fitness in the intellectual, spiritual, physical, and relational areas of the personal realm. I have experienced that no matter how much scripture I may be able to quote, my relational fitness is an outward reflection of my Spiritual maturity. This is only a work of the Spirit in and through us.
So let us pack up our fruit basket and head into Thanksgiving with the best side dish ever.
In your corner,
Nadya
