How do you determine if a new focus is required?
I realized 10 years ago that I was placing high priority on things that were not in line. I was out of balance. I was hyper-focused, but not on the right things…
I just spent 2 hours of Focus Time.
I wasn’t at a personal retreat or locked in an office. I was at a baseball field.
In Session 3 we learn that there are three kinds of time that we steward to live an extraordinary life:
- Buffer Time: time spent reacting to routine, response, and preparing for Focus time
- Sabbath Time: ordained by God for restoration, reflection and rejuvenation
- Focus Time: proactive time committed to action on strategic initiatives
Before I began The Master’s Program, my focus time was almost always dedicated to developing and advancing my career.
After Session 3, I recognized that my focus was misplaced, and my priorities were out of balance. Thank God I learned that when I did.
This evening I was filled with gratitude to see my own son focused on his son. My grandson played his third game of baseball. My memories of my own children flooded back along with, regrettably, the many missed opportunities to see their “firsts”.
I am overjoyed that God redeems the time when we repent of wrong thinking and behavior.
Gratefulness filled my heart as I cheered my grandson on to first, then second base! God gives us grace and second chances! He gives us new mercies every morning, and new building blocks to create Legacy.
It’s Fall and I’m excited about renewed focus! How about you?

Nadya Dickson
