We don’t really think about breathing… until we find it difficult.
Every summer through the month of July or August, I visit my family in Canada. This past week, a planned itinerary of touring and sightseeing was to conclude with a wedding celebration in Niagara Falls. Yet, due to an unexpected death, it quickly became a whirlwind of activities to prepare for a funeral after my Great Aunt breathed her last breath.
As family gathered throughout the week, ‘breathing’ became a consistent topic of conversation.
During the funeral, the Pastor talked about listening to the rhythmic breathing of my Great Aunt after he prayed with her. Later that evening she exhaled her last breath.
Genesis 2:7 tells us that the very breath we breathe is from God Himself.
When God spoke to Moses, He shared His name in Exodus 6:2, “Yahweh.” The Hebrew spelling does not include the vowels, as the Name is so reverenced, rather it is spelled “YHWH”. The pastor described its pronunciation as similar to a whisper, as if breathing, “YaH: the intake, WeH: the exhale.”
The Pastor further explained, “We speak his Name in our very first breath, and we speak His name in our very last.” He is the beginning and the end.
I couldn’t help but think of two very different life events in two days. One was to celebrate a life well-lived, the other to celebrate a life that is just beginning. I needed to catch my breath!
Doesn’t it feel like the whole world is experiencing a overwhelming whirlwind of life events? The last five years are enough to take your breath away.
So, if you’re struggling as well to catch your breath, remember you know the Breath of Life. Call on His name and just breathe.
In your corner,
Nadya
