Danger and risk seem to be hardwired into boys at a young age. I don’t think that feeling ever completely dies. It just gets ignored.
The Santa Barbara mountain bike trails have been impassable and closed due to heavy erosion this season. Finally, here in June, they are opening up and I’ve been longing to get back on my bike. Danger awaits.
Santa Barbara has some of the steepest mountain bike trails in California. They are rock gardens with steep rock stair sections that seem impossible to conquer! There is something rewarding about the challenge. I have ridden the mountain trails in San Luis Obispo with some of my TMP friends, but the ride just did not do it for me like my Santa Barbara rides do. The trails in San Luis Obispo are flowing and less risky, and I didn’t almost die! Falling along the Santa Barbara trails has a much higher bodily cost.
What is it about our wild hearts that love a challenge? Men seem to want the thrill of risk – our hearts and passion engaged in something that will push us – taking us close to the edge.
The same is true for God’s Kingdom. It’s full of risk. Can you feel it? Do you feel like sometimes God’s calling you to take a risk? The Holy Spirit may knock on your door, asking you to do something scary. He might ask you to tell another about Him. He might ask you to engage His Spirit to heal someone. Or He might ask you to deny yourself and take up a symbolic cross.
In TMP, faith is spelled R-I-S-K. Faith is about believing in something unseen. It is having the hope and the confidence that God will come through for us.
Every time we come to a precipice where God asks us to do the next big thing, the response is similar:
Will He show up?
Is this going to work out?
Will I look like a fool in the world’s eyes?
The bottom line: You were designed to take risks in the Kingdom. You were created to live by faith and take that dangerous step off the metaphorical cliff. It can be scary and daunting but…
This is where your faith grows. This is where God shows up. Be prepared, He might show up outside of your timeline. Yet, He constantly shows up in His perfect timing – confirming it was worth the risk.
I encourage you this summer to ask Jesus where you need to risk. You may need a meaningful conversation with your spouse, with whom you know will have risks. Maybe it’s a challenging conversation with a son or daughter that you know needs to happen. How about your career? Is God calling you to take a step or commitment that seems audacious and scary?
The Kingdom has so many opportunities. Is God inviting you to invest in your Kingdom calling more significantly than you think possible? Taking a risk is trusting God to grow the Kingdom through you, it could lead to someone’s salvation as well as the growth of your own LifeMastery.
It turns out our God is into the impossible! He makes the impossible look easy.
Ask Jesus where He’s taking you this summer. We are followers of Jesus. He’s taking us somewhere and where He takes us will always have risks and adventure. Your heart will come alive with every risk experienced when He comes through.
I want to hear what you’re thinking. Drop something in the chat below and let me know what risk you’ll take.
We’re in your corner,
Rob

So… we sold our house, cars, boat, motorcycles, dog and everything to move to Guatemala to build his kingdom. My kingdom assignment got a little out of control!!! Tons of risks! No regrets!
Love this! God bless you with what comes next!
