Preparing Today for Your Future Self

Is there a decision you made in the past that you are grateful for today?
Are there any regrets in the present for missed opportunities in the past?
Most of us would respond yes to both of these questions.

“What can you do today your future self will thank you for?”

If considering the next 3 years, you may be strategizing how to prepare for the next move, getting ready to start a new company, or scale the one you currently lead. Maybe, it’s creating more space to do more of what you love.  What does preparation look like today for that day?

If I’m talking about your future self in 5 or 10 years, perhaps you would be anticipating the ages of your children and what their life stage presents to you. College or marriage, or even grandchildren? What does preparation look like today for that day? My husband journeyed through TMP in 2012 to 2014. This led to significant life change, not just for him, but for all of us – he left a position to start his own consultancy. This new role decreased his time on the road and increased his presence and engagement at home – great timing as our son was turning 13, a critical age. Damien got to do more of what he loved, both in his professional life and at home. We ended up homeschooling our youngest through his high school years. Thank God, my engineer husband was able to lead math and sciences.

Now, 2023, my husband is journeying with a new cohort in TMP, preparing for what’s next.  Yes, almost 10 years later. Why? Because preparation for each new season looks different.

Last year we became empty nesters. A new emergence through a new convergence, not just personally, but for both of us. It’s a collective calling convergence. We want to consider all of our life assets to become more impactful as Kingdom assets.

What if I said let’s think higher? Not ten years from now, but 10,000 years from now? The infamous hymn, Amazing Grace, heralds, “when we’ve been there 10,000 years, shining like the sun, we’ve no less days, to sing God’s praise, then when we first begun.” That’s because we have entered eternity. What does preparation look like today for that day?

Confessing Jesus as Lord and Savior is only the beginning. What about how we’ll spend 10,000 upon 10,000 years in another place called Heaven for all eternity? This is what Jesus modeled for us. It’s how we live now, how we walk now. To quote a favorite mentor here’s a Shank-ism,” Practicing LifeMastery for Life Mission, while living a lifestyle for a life account.” This is what will determine how we show up, 10,000 years from now.

Again, what can you do today your future self will thank you for?

We’re in your corner,
