How do you know it’s time to wage war and are you prepared for it?

Once you have determined that you are committed to walking in LifeMastery you have signed up for an ancient battle with an invisible adversary. Adam and Eve were the first royal couple in the garden but after their encounter with the gaslighter, they were deposed and lost their position in Eden  but were promised a future royal heir who would conquer the enemy once and for all.

We too deal with the gaslighter. This term comes from a 1940’s film with Ingrid Bergman. “Gaslight” is about a devious husband who attempts to steal a large family inheritance by playing mind games and telling lies to his wife until she questions her sense of reality.

Isn’t that what the enemy does? He will attempt to derail us through circumstances or he will create a powerful but subtle picture in our mind of an alternate reality to distract or derail us.  If accepted, that lie can become part of a self-defeating belief that will impact our ability to walk in ever increasing levels of freedom and fitness.

But what if you are experiencing unusual constraints or maybe you are dealing with overpowering thoughts of defeat and failure? This could be an indication that you are dealing with spiritual warfare or a stronghold. For example, you may have experienced or revisited The Master’s Program Session 4 and you decide you are going to invest time working on your marriage or your relationship with your children and suddenly there is an ugly outburst of strife in your home. LifeMastery requires taking authority over what does not belong in our territory (personal realm, family realm, etc). As a man thinks, so is he!

When the battle is beyond ourselves, there is only one way to wage war with the Gaslighter; with the TRUTH! So here are a few weapons for your arsenal:

• For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Cor 10:3-5)

• Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

• Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

• And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he (Christ) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:15)

• Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

Of course we aren’t called to be lone rangers! We are encouraged and sharpened by our peers in TMP! Sometimes we need to call on our band of brothers or sisters to contend and fight the good fight alongside us!
