Halftime. Bob Buford – a dear friend and mentor from 1986 until his death in 2018 – made that concept – halftime – one of the banner themes of his Kingdom calling. The idea – modeled in football – that the break in the middle allows a reframing of strategy for the rest of the game is even more important in life than in sports. We’re coming up on halftime for 2023; what should you do right now, to take advantage of your mid-year reconnaissance and fine-tune your strategies for the second half?

What do you know right now that you didn’t know, six months ago? As you look at the way you’ve invested the last six months – with your time, fine-tuned competence and talents, your relational influence and your financial capacity – are you comfortable with the stewardship of those God-provided assets in service to yourself, your family and His Kingdom? Is your plan for the rest of ’23 to keep your current allocation of those assets stable, or are you hoping to reimagine what’s possible as you fine-tune your game plan for the next 180 days?

Coming out of my 2022 one-year leukemia lock-down, I started 2023 with a reinvented life. Our long-anticipated transfer of leadership within The Master’s Program occurred – at my suggestion, with my blessing – during my three-month hospitalization last year. With Jeff Gerhardt in my old role as CEO, I’m still part of the TMP family – as Founder – and now offering my time and counsel to our current leadership as well as our past graduates, using my time, talents and influence. My aim is to help accelerate their (your) leadership within the personalized lane of Kingdom Calling.

Cheri and I will be sitting down with George – our longtime financial advisor from the Ronald Blue Trust – in the next few days for our midyear assessment. It’s an amazing time for us: this year, we’ll contribute about six-times our earned income into a myriad of Kingdom initiatives. That means we’re giving from assets – not just income – and blowing way past the limits of tax deductibility. The IRS doesn’t determine our giving levels: we do, as the Holy Spirit directs…

Since January, I’ve had the opportunity to spend hours – via phone conferences, Zoom meetings, face-to-face coffees – with dozens of graduates of The Master’s Program. As participants complete their three-year experience in TMP, one of their leave-behinds is a letter describing the life-impact after 36 months of LifeMastery/LifeMission. Those letters are great, but I’m finding that their experience beyond their graduation is even more expansive.

Disciplined refinement of their personal body/mind/soul/spirit core. Great family stories, as they continue to implement the strategies within their marriages and parenting that came out of their time in TMP. New breakthroughs in their professional lives that result in more expansion, more financial capacity and increased margin and availability for life beyond the basics of personal, family and professional leadership. And, most amazingly, the maturation of their leadership within the Kingdom in keeping with their confident pursuit of their Kingdom assignment.

Talk about diversity: unique evangelistic efforts with next-gen youth. Safe water in the developing world, accompanied with the Gospel. Ministry to Jews and Muslims, in Israel and the Middle East. Bible translation among people groups who have yet to hear from God in their heart language. Provisions and proclamations to impoverished people across the USA. Faith-positive entertainment in media-saturated western culture. The list goes on and on and on…
