In the next couple of days, investment decisions will be made with eternal implications.
For 51 weeks every year, most affluent Christians stay under-the-radar with their Kingdom donations. For many, their weekly/monthly giving mirrors the disciples who sit down-the-row on Sundays. But, in the last days of the year, things change for them, often significantly. Most large checks – for ministry – are written during the last week of the year.
Jesus’ messages – about everything! – were disruptive. He challenged the assumptions made under the Law, and made the New Covenant a dynamic new approach between Heaven and Earth. One of His new paradigms was powerful: the Old Testament commandments for contributions (tithing) were forever upstaged by the New Testament invitation for investments that have Eternal value.
Our constituents – Christians, in touch with The Master’s Program – know that we major in the divine disruptions portrayed by Jesus and promoted by the Kingdom. Eternal Investments require – and warrant! – far more thoughtful attention than the contributions that the Jews made to their religious recipients. Savvy leaders understand that investments run the gambit from Ponzi schemes to high-potential venture capital positions in “the next Apple.”
You’ll be making your last Eternal Investments for 2025 in the next few days; the opportunities available to you are not all the same.
Your church is a given. Ministries that serve the poor – directly, at their point of need – while giving them the Gospel are sure-bets. Those are like utility stocks: steady performers that don’t require a degree in economics to see their stability.
The missions fund at church is like a mutual fund: managed by some pros, they give market-level returns. They probably won’t see any extraordinary breakout performance; that requires a tolerance for risk and a perception of entrepreneurial spunk that doesn’t populate church mission committees.
As you allocate your year-end giving, you might want to consider a Heavenly hedge fund that bets on leaders whose career past is no full indication of their Calling future. These are men and women who are discovering their divine potential, and – for many, for the first time – setting strategies in place to change their world and build God’s Kingdom through the discoveries and motivations they’ve gained – like you have! – through The Master’s Program.
Consider this a shameless solicitation for your consideration as you make some of your year-end decisions about Kingdom investments. We still have a significant challenge to restore the reserves we’ve expended this year, to invest in the next wave of Kingdom leaders (like you) who represent massive future Kingdom potential. What’s better: buying a bushel of apples to distribute to the hungry… or, using the same dollars to plant an apple tree that will feed hungry people for the next 25 years?
We serve our ministry constituency, and we serve our partners/investors. Our objective: to make both groups great in the eternal Kingdom. That offer was extended by Jesus, and will probably be missed by most, because of the worries of this life and the deception of riches (remember the Third Soil, of Matthew 13).
